Apartments are Expensive
Apartments in Lahore are expensive. The city has a few downtowns, and the residential colonies have not contributed to lowering the prices. The only areas where the apartments are clustered are Gulberg, DHA, Bahria Town, and other residential elite clubs.
This has contributed to the stereotype that the apartments are an elite affair only for the ultra-rich. The result of such an approach has led to a price hike that is not affordable for general home buyers.
People Prefer Their Own Land
Punjabis love their land. This is one of the reasons citizens in Lahore prefer to have their house built on land rather than live in an apartment. This is why Lahore has spread in every direction and far away from central Lahore, which is happening rapidly.
Since an apartment’s land is no one’s land, it is a mishap, and the person no longer possesses anything. On the other hand, a person living on land in their own house is always the actual owner. This fear of loss has also contributed towards the popularity of horizontal spread rather than the popularity of skyrises.
No Government Policies
The Government has also not started initiatives for the popularity of apartments. The policies were always focused on the regulation of housing societies and not the promotion of apartments. The investors thus found societies more lucrative than apartments, hence the city’s need for more quality apartments.
The last policy that the government released was in 2021 when LDA, with the subsidy from the government, initiated apartment projects in the city that were later abandoned due to various factors.
Privacy
Everybody knows an apartment has thin walls, many people living in the same building and words can travel faster. The privacy concerns in an apartment are accurate. The thick walls and the narrow hallways always bother people who are used to living in their homes. This is also one of the reasons why people don’t prefer apartments.
